Many of you already know the launch of the STALKER 1 remaster caused the third biggest explosion in the Zone. Lore-wise. It used to be the first happened in 1986, second - in 2006 (SoC dialogue reads that). We woke up to the third blowout few days ago, on 20 May, 2025 - the release day of the "Enhanced Edition" versions of the trilogy.
Besides the clunky performance and mediocre asset retouch, amid all the other issues, most fans of the game were highly concerned of the content that was removed... content found in the original games ever since the start. While it'll be hard to specify all the differences compared to the original versions, the highlight of the day remains...
the exclusion of "Soviet references" - speaking of posters, signs, texts, monuments. Monuments? Damn, right. One of the well-known landmarks in the games is the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant sign at the entrance of the ill-fated complex. Top half of it - MISSING. Yeah, what's been there for 18+ years since the launch of Shadow of Chornobyl was taken out.
Three days after the release, developers still haven't responded to the completely deserved criticism about the historical revisionism, messed up and cut content, be it mechanics, be it iconic environmental pieces, be it anything part of the game's DNA. Yet have published the first patch, 1.0.1, and as expected, they "secretly" brought back the given concrete sign the way it used to look before as you can see in the following screenshot:
While in 1.0 it looked like this:
"Fixed issues with missing geometry on several levels"
They surely tried to see how far they can go to anger the fans with the usual censor "dis and dat" policy. Something that is in nobody's interest, honestly.
Allow me to mention Soviet references in essence is the identity of this game universe. We can't selectively forget or act like STALKER isn't influenced by events that took place in the USSR, more so the series takes huge inspiration from the Roadside Picnic book and Tarkovsky's memorable STALKER movie from 1979.
Will GSC do further "damage control"? Maybe yes, maybe not. It's hard to say with their choice of actions overall.
